Feature
Since the QUS has no risk of the x-ray exposure, expecting mothers and children can use it, repeatedly. It is also a pain-free, quick procedure.
Principle
We can calculate the Stiffness (% young adult) – the sole standard index for the QUS employed by the FDA – from two figures - speed of sound (SOS) and broadband ultrasound attenuation (BUA) – which are obtained from this method. The SOS shows the density of the bone, while the BUA tells us the hardness and the tri-dimensional structure of the bone.
